9^th September 07 - Eastern Open Challenge

The 9^th September meeting had a quite a large entry of Drivers to contest the final round of the Eastern Open Challenge – mainly from the St Neots and Cambridge Clubs, but also visitors from Trent and Sturton Clubs.

7^th October 07

We held our final meeting of the season on Sunday, 7^th October.  A good turnout of 85 plus cars provided some super racing. Visitors attended from St Neots, Cambridge , Concord Essex, Trent , Sturton and Nottingham Clubs.  

Classes worthy of mention were Class 4, ST331 Michael Taylor and SP70 Tom Godfrey having some particularly close tussles during their heats although the class was down on numbers.  The Class 8 Specials also had a fast and furious time, definitely not disappointing the crowd.  During one heat SP11 Graham Hicks put his car into a quite spectacular roll, having gone a fraction too wide on the top bend.  Later in the afternoon Junior Driver SP113 Gavin Oakes also took a tumble, thankfully neither driver was hurt.  This meeting was sponsored by the Skipper family and the Club would like to thank them for their continued support.   

The Club Championship was determined in a one off race held during the afternoon.  The top cars in each Men’s Class Championship were eligible to enter this one off Champion of Champions race.  Results for the very exciting race, which proved a fitting climax to the 07 season were:

Nationals 2007

Congratulations to the following drivers who competed at the National Championships which took place in Yorkshire on 4th & 5th August:

Class 4: SP70 Thomas Godfrey  (first time at the Nationals) suffered a 1st Heat DNF but then creditable 4th & 5th     (first time at the Nationals) suffered a 1st Heat DNF but then creditable 4th & 5th  

Class 6: SP114 Stephen Pearsall had 3 shots at leading his 1st Heat before sticking a conrod through the side of the engine and playing no further part

Class 7: SP25 Kenny Perry finished 5th, 5th and 2nd whilst SP4 Graham Bennett was Black Flagged in Heat 1 finished 3rd in Heat 2 then sold his car on Saturday night!!!

Class 8: SP8 Chris Pope with 3 straight wins finished 2nd in the Final and SP29 Melvin Clayton (first time at the Nationals) missed the 1st Heat then gained a 6th & 7th

Class 10: SP1 Bill Shaw after a 4th and 1st in the first 2 Heats had a DNF and missed out on the Final.
